It took ninety years standard to compile the Register. Ninety years of official visits, editorial committees, reviews, complaints, boards of enquiry, threats, diplomatic incidents and at least one full-blown military exchange; megalitres of sweat, ichor, blood, tears, and pretty much any other biological fluid you care to mention were poured out in its compilation, and billions of credits spent. If the limiting factor is the size of the cargo bay, you've got to get the best gain per unit: Best choice in Zaonce is to transport either computers or antique Zaoncese hunting crossbows to Isinor. Actually, that 'bit more' is about 33 Credits gain for each ton (I found that information in a pirate's logbook around Qube). With a little lower gain you can also move the the computers to Bemaera.

Average prices are based on long-term established averages (the so-called arithmetic mean). The average quantity is based only on quantity values greater zero. Availability gives a percentage whether a good is available in this system. Please note that these are statistical data. GalCop regulations expressively forbids the broadcasting of actual prices beyond the current system.

Planet Textures

There are several planet textures specifically for Zaonce.

  • FPO Zaonce was specially created by Stranger and is on the in-game Expansions Manager.
  • There is also a texture buried in Povray Planets just for Zaonce (see the animation on the right) which ties in with the description in the Rough Guide.
  • And then there is the experimental Zaonce is Venus 8K, also on the Expansions Manager.
Note that none of these textures currently include city night-lights.

Fiction

Woodford's Casino and Bar was one of the most famous Python ship conversions, which was towed into orbit around Zaonce. It was tolerated for about fifteen years by the Zaonce authorities. However, it soon became clear that it was being used as a money laundering facility and was damaged beyond repair during a Police raid on the operators of the casino. The wreck continued to orbit Zaonce for another year before it was finally scrapped.

Status Quo

In the novella Status Quo by Drew Wagar, Zaonce is mentioned as the system where the family of Rebecca Weston was killed by an assassin and where she was "scooped up" by James Feynman.

Jim had broken the rules, performing a crazy manoeuvre no sane pilot would have ever tried. He’d gotten in front of the Courier just as it triggered its forward gun. In a deft move he’d cut the injectors just in time, the SuperCobra decelerating directly in front of the Courier just as it was picking up speed. The rear shields absorbed the military laser at point-blank range, barely maintaining integrity.

He’d scooped the pod at high speed.

Unable to turn aside in time, the Courier had rammed him. Both ships had been spun apart

(Status Quo, Chapter 4)

Here, too, the first Quirium Cascade Mine was used in combat.

The Vipers were directly between her and the mine.

She heard the calls of panic on wideband. All four Vipers turned and ran at full speed away in different directions from the mine detonation point.

One took a little more time to turn than the others.

Rebecca saw the leading edge of blue fire intersect with the Viper; it was expanding far faster than even the swift Vipers could manage at full power.

The Viper vanished, replaced by a second flash of light and another intense blue spherical shockwave.

“My God.” She whispered. “What have I done?”

(Status Quo, Chapter 5)

Most Deadly

Much of Most Deadly takes place at Zaonce.

Routes and Regions

Spaceways L1 and L2

Spaceway L1
Spaceway L2

The Spaceway L1 and the Spaceway L2 pass through this system, coming from Lave and going to Qutiri.

The Old Worlds

The Old Worlds

Zaonce is member of The Old Worlds.

The Old Worlds consist of Reorte, Lave, Diso, Riedquat, Leesti, Zaonce, and Orerve

Rough Guide

Zaonce

The Rough Guide to the Ooniverse also has a very good entry on Zaonce.

Man oh man, who would have believed that just six words could shift a whole planetary economy? One word, really. It’s been over a century since the Co-operative published the definitive Register of Worlds, but that little “tedious” has been haunting Zaonce ever since it came out.

So why is it such a paltry collection of bald statistics, fuzzy orbital clips and some of the least informative one-line descriptions you could possibly imagine?

Excerpt from "Rough Guide to the Ooniverse:Zaonce"

There is also a mention elsewhere in the Guide to Zaonce having qualified for the first time in over 70 years in Zero-G Hockey.

The Traders Almanach

Once you've got more Credits to spend, this would be best: You can't make a mistake with buying computers here. You've got the choice to move them to Isinor each ton for a quite nice profit of 33.0 creds, with Bemaera being the second choice in destinations and Lave last. Of lately, there have been piracy reports from Lave.
