About Cpt

Cpt.jpg

A player, not a programmer...

Cpt likes exploring OXPs and has been known to comment on the forum...

Experience

An Elite player with a spectrum of experience, my tastes were for Vanilla Oolite but I now err towards OXP Ooheavy version of Oolite.

I confess to experimenting with OXPs to enhance my game play experience, I have compiled a list of OXPs that I would recommend.

My Recommended OXPs List

2022 note: This list dates back to 2013: many of these oxp's are not on the in-game Expansions Manager

Check out these add ons that generally make it easier and/or more interesting...

Activities

Deep Space Pirates = No need to feel lonely anywhere...
Fuel Station = Useful for short stops on longer runs and when feeling naughty you can hide in them so attackers miss you and hit the Fuel station they then get a bounty (or bigger bounty) on them for missing you!
Gates = Sometimes you are in such a hurry you'll pay for a short cut.

Ambience

Buoy Repair = Makes the space lanes a little busier and essential if you have a lot of thargoids eating your buoys and parking meters etc...
Pirate Coves = Lets have more pirates.
Random Shipnames = Randomly names the NPC ships, sometimes these make me smile...

Dockables

Deep Space Dredger = Credits you with the ability to salvage ships...
Planetfall = Lets visit that planet or moon.
Wildships = Worth it just for the Kiota Stations someone else to run to, trade with and navigate by...

Equipment

Automated Pylon Re-arm In-flight Loader = When there are never enough slots and you want to give out more...
Bounty Scanner = Use with the Scanner Targeting Enhancement equipment to see how much you'll earn from a fight. (not on Expansions Manager)
Extra Fuel tanks = Don't get stranded without fuel.. especially not in witch-space
HyperCargo = I want all the Cargo I can carry and then I want more...
Iron Hide = Gives you more time in a fight before damage gets critical..
Misjump analyser = A great help when trying to get 'lost' into space, especially when hunting Thargoids!
Ore Processor = Lets you turn splinters sometimes from minerals into something more precious...
Police IFF Scanner Upgrade = It is nice to have advanced warning of who is clean, a pirates or somewhere in between...
Sniperlock = Helps to keep slippery customers in sight...
Welcome Mat = Lets you know if Thargoids, Police or Pirates are about in large numbers when you arrive from hyperspace in a new system.

HUDs

Mechanics

Big Ships = This adds AI for larger ships to make life more interesting.
Furball = Seeing a Spacestation and docking is more interesting when a bar-room brawl beckons explodes into space... (not on Expansions Manager)
Jaguar Company = Well another port in the storm and they come out and play in witchspace too.
Illegal Goods tweak = Lets you wear a white hat and give customs any naughty goods you acquired..
Market aide = Especially good early on: helps discern a turkey from a bargain (2022: try Market Observer instead)
Offender traders = Makes NPC pay for being naughty by becoming Offenders, so that is a bounty and cargo on offer... (not on Expansions Manager)
Total Patrol = Lengthens the arm of the law to more places in System...

Miscellaneous

Galactic Navy = Play Oolite starship troopers style... (not on Expansions Manager)

Missions

Escort Contracts = Get paid to save a trader from the Pirates
Military Fiasco = Because you are not busy enough and the bounties are sweet.
Random Hits = Get paid to take out some more challenging pilots...
Stellar Serpents = Something else to do...
Thargoid Wars = From Galaxy 2 onwards they come more often for your parking meters...
Vector = Something to hunt down... just what you need another quest. (does not work with modern versions of Oolite)

Retextures

Ships

Baakili Far Trader = An occasional new trading opportunity... (not on Expansions Manager)
Hotrods = Fast ships without much stamina and this is worth it alone for the dialogue from your new enemies the mostly harmless imo Tiger gang! (not on Expansions Manager)
Liners = Puts tourists in harms way...
Thargoid Carrier = Now these guys do real damage up close, but a 2000₢ bounty is just so attractive! (not on Expansions Manager)

Systems

Anarchies = Some places to go when Galcop become too interested in getting to know you...
Commies = Put some life into those Communist systems...
Factions = If it feels like a warzone getting to the 'S' Aegis already. Just wait till you add this and visit multi-government worlds... (not on Expansions Manager)
The Feudal States = I oppose Feudalism but a Knighthood is nice to be offered and its good to wager on winning your joust!

Weapons

Hired Guns = Early on a bit of help is essential from time to time especially if you opt for a trader vessel...

WARNING these OXPs may add to the game play and steal hours of your life!

(Technical note: Don't forget when Oolite looks in the "add ons" folder it ignores folder/ files that don't end in ".oxp" so do check to make sure you aren't missing out on an OXP you recently downloaded by moving the bit that ends .OXP up to this directory or alternatively adding ".oxp" to the end of each folders till you reach the program files works too!)
