The crucial distinction here is
- Syncretist Lore which synthesises Elite/Oolite with the Frontier family of games
- Purist Lore which ignores Frontier and seeks explanations for the eccentricities of Elite/Oolite
- Pragmatism which regards too much lore as a straightjacket.
