Overview
The Adder Mk II is the prime design of maestro Rufernus, a former project-manager from Benulobiweed Inc.. It is an enhanced, larger version of the Adder (Mark I). While the major focus was on speed and therefore came with standard injectors, this ship additionally got more energy banks, a higher recharge rate, better armament and a maximum cargo load of 22 t.
Soon after the introduction to the market, potential clients stood in line. The swiftness combined with the cargo space made it attractive to racers, traders, couriers, and smugglers. The 2 laser mounts and 3 pylons inspired hunters, assassins, and pirates alike. This craft made it possible to make a single kill and then just leave possible escort ships behind.
History
Marett Space Corporation was a small ship production company but blessed with a creative designer-team under the lead of maestro Rufernus. Ruferenus, a former project-manager, left Benulobiweed Inc. in bad blood, rumors have it that he took some blueprints on his way out. True or false, his Adder Mk II certainly had uncommon technology included.
Business boomed until the ship factory on Edle (G1) became collateral damage in one of the endless civil wars. Unfortunately, this damage included Ruferenus, parts of his team and the main database. There were whispers that the destruction of the shipyard and the death of Ruferenus were somehow arranged by Benulobiweed Inc. Security Department, but neither GalCop nor local authorities ever started even an investigation.
However, the production of the Adder Mk II ended for good and while sometimes you still could find a used Adder Mk II for sale, they became pretty rare and expensive.
The remaining members of the designer-team were tasked with the creation of a remake. Some months later 2 prototypes were introduced as successors to the management With many key-data missing, it proved to be impossible to merge both versions into one.
Successors
- The Adder Mark II-R as a racer with boosted injectors which offer higher speed but also use more fuel. However, the only standard weapon fit in the fore mount is a pulse laser.
- The Adder Mark II-F as a fast, light fighter. Slower than the Adder Mark II-R and with weaker boosters but with 2 mounts, 2 pylons and the option for shield boosters and military shield enhancement as well.
While both ships are cheaper than the Adder Mk II the maximum cargo captivity is only 2 t.
