OXPs suitable for new players
Below is a list of OXPs general thought to be suitable for new Commanders. These will enhance the look and feel of the game without having any major impact on gameplay or game mechanics. Once a good understanding of how the game works has been achieved, a player may then make informed choices as to how they might want to change the game to suit their own wants or requirements with more 'game-changing' OXPs.
Planets and Moons
(Normally you would choose one of these only)
Famous Planets (Famous Planets can be used in conjunction with other planet retexture sets. See the Wiki page for details.)
Replacement Ships etc
(These replace the models and/or textures of the standard ships. More than one shipset can be used together. Choose a 'replace' set (to replace the standard ships), and one or more 'addition' sets to get more variety)
Accessories + Smivs'Shipset (used together these two OXPs replace all the objects in Oolite.)
Griffs non-shader set (by Capt Solo)
Extra ships
Liners (Some liners are dockable and may have a market which differs from that of the main station. However they are so infrequent that this should not noticeably affect game balance.)
NB There are numerous other 'ship' OXPs, some of which are well-balanced and many of which are not. Novices should add these with caution, paying particular attention to the ship specs - if it looks noticeably better than a Cobra 3 it is probably not going to fit into standard Oolite very well.
General ambience
BGS - the background set (and Better Screens for alternative screen backgrounds)
