Dor Reval of Xexedi

Dor or Tea? (Dorotea?) - Not many non-ranoids can tell.

G.E.T. Sibling, formerly Commander, Dor Reval - a Laver of amphibioid parentage - now consider themselves Xexedian. Slickly scaling the Grade-rungs of the ubiquitous Guild, and consequently under our oath of silence, Dor is as of this moment a lowly Master Trader, Grade 3.

They - for a ranoid's gender-states are transient - retain an irrational attachment to the title 'Grocer' (preferably prefixed by between one and three superlatives) and insist on being addressed as such. Dor 'call me Grocer' Reval is ribbed, but indulged, by Guild ἀδελφοί about this quirk.

Zealous tuner-in to, and avid collector of, the prolific despatches of investigative reporter Tea Mereso, Dor has been overheard to say that a single burning desire and ambition is to meet, and one day wed, them. (for the pair are indeed species-compatible.) Dor eyes friend and cognatum Fens Buber - who has conversed and travelled with the elusive object of lust - with sometimes ill-concealed, though always good-natured, envy. They continue to plead for an introduction.

The Grocer's growing cachet within the Order as an innovator - Dor attended Lave Engineering Academy for two years before stealing a parent's Asp II, hurriedly re‑registering her Laenina's Flux and lighting out for the Spaceway - has secretly rankled with Buber. They are therefore darned if they are going to hand the upstart the new pash.

Tardy Observation

Since their acceptance into the Order, it was a unanimous feeling that Dor's failing (a character flaw) was their impatience with the less creatively or productively endowed amongst the adelphoi, their failure to take things lightly and drift with the current, not swim against it; along with irritation at the petty bickering, jealousies, and facetious stands of such cognata* vis-à-vis the Grocer in particular. Perhaps this is the root of Reval's elusiveness... Where the Grocer is concerned, here is the one point on which this chronicler cannot but agree, wherein they will always wish them well. But differences run deep.

(* Machine intelligences and clones, sprinkled albeit thinly throughout our institution, bore, I recall, a special animus toward Reval.)

Seeds of Advancement?

Reval is perhaps best known among the few who care as the designer of the Guild's GETter HUD (fitted as standard to all Guilders' ships on induction) as well as for the testing and development of externally mounted Goods Containers (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50-ton variants).

Grocer Dor, toadyingly dubbed 'Supreme, Serendipitous & Serene' thereafter by Fellowcrafter (Grade 2) Cholmondeley the Craven of drab but not 'dry' Digebiti, had lately been instrumental in pioneering the J-fed Overdrive concept and a novel Cargo Space Refit procedure, these endeavours capped by the meticulous refitting of all Guild craft to FE Standards.

Reval's G.E.T. future thus looked irritatingly rosy. Buggered if they were going to test-fly the succulent Mereso personages too...

Additional: Last year the Grocer was made Technical Director of G.E.T.'s Transport & Research arm, FE Shipyards. A Grade advance - awfully sad to recount - did not accompany their lateral 'promotion'. As a result of this, Director Dor spends less time trading, but has volunteered for instructional duties following the explosion of Guild applications in the wake of Mereso's campaign of investigation. I baulk to say who became Reval's first flight student...

Addendum: But all this was before they disappeared from Guild ken. In certain spacer-haunts, rumour has it that Dor put on Police vigilante garb and is now well assimilated into the Galcop SDD‑Network. Those deep in their cups have intimated that the apostate joined Galcop's Black Labs, taking a lead in the development of their feared 'non-Laser' weapon.

The Guild in all its wisdom has decided not to pursue the matter.
