This is a mere filler until somebody with the knowledge writes a proper page.
Overview
Turrets are included in the Vanilla game code but seem only to be used by OXP ships & dockables. Aegidian included turrets back in 2004.
OXP's
Quite a number of oxp's include turrets. See, for example, the Naval ships & stations in Category:Navies
