Isis Interstellar’s New Trader
Top news story this week was the release of Isis Interstellar’s newest ship, The Cobra MkB.
In a follow-up to their Adder MkIII, Isis Interstellar once again have expanded their range of ships rather than resting on their laurels and sticking to their customary powerful fighters and big multi-role vessels. The ship originated, as do many of Isis Interstellar’s designs, on the front lines of the Thargoid war zones. The Navy announced a need for a smaller vessel that could be adapted to various roles, from high-speed courier, to armed personal transport for high-ranking officers, to a CasEvac craft capable of adequately defending itself if needed. Keeping much the same iconic silhouette of the long-loved classic Cobra MkIII, Isis Interstellar took their successful King Cobra design and reduced it in size to a craft that fits neatly between the MkI and MkIII, and made it slightly more streamlined to reduce target area.
With a reduced internal capacity impacting on installation of power plants and shield generators, Isis Interstellar’s external “Karapace” physical armour gives the ship a step up in survivability.
Although much of the operation data of the ship is classified, word has it that the Navy is extremely satisfied w/ it, and Isis Interstellar was given licence to produce a civilian version. As it was a new design and a step away from their other Cobra models, Isis Interstellar decided to name the range with a new alphabetic Marking system.
With its smaller size, the vessel is perfect for smaller-volume traders, and is adaptable enough to be a decent vessel for miners, bounty hunters or couriers who require decent speed and firepower but not large amounts of cargo space. Aimed primarily at replacing the fairly obsolete Cobra MkI, the MkB exceeds the stats of that vessel in every way, making it a very worthy successor and extremely good value for money. Similar to the military variant, the vessel incorporates Karapace armour to make up for the reduced shield capacity. Standard cargo capacity comes at 12 tons, and a 6-ton expansion bay is available. Civilian engines are not as powerful as the Naval variant, but the ship still manages a respectable 0.295LM.
The ship retails for 123,500₢ – which we consider extremely good value. If you’re interested in taking one for a test flight, check out your local dealers in systems of Tech Level 6 and above.
