Update of King Cobra (Cobra Mk.VI)

Overview

Update of Isis Interstellar's King Cobra, itself an update of the Cobra Mk.III

Which? Space Review: King Cobra MkII

Over the past few years, Isis Interstellar has been noticeably quiet on the civilian side of things, w/ only a tweaked, cosmetically-updated Vampire model coming off the production lines. Word behind the scenes is that they have been fully engaged in some very intense, very secret military projects, but the silence was finally broken when the company released an updated version of their best-selling King Cobra.

The release took the markets by surprise, as no word had been leaked about development, and no launch celebrations were made. Questioned about this, an Isis Interstellar spokesperson merely said the company was still fully engaged in other projects and that the ship would speak for itself.

That it certainly does. The ship is very similar is width and height to her older sister but slightly longer, and has a similar, but distinctive, silhouette. Hull features, however, are noticeably different.

One of the biggest changes is the main engine configuration; the vessel is propelled by a pair of Ulrich HW-2SD thrusters, supplemented by a pair of R3800-K2 Double Wasp motors, giving a top speed of 0.360LM.

The other significant change is around the cockpit. Totally redesigned and now a lot more reminiscent of the Vampire vessels, the cockpit is specifically designed to accommodate the new escape capsule.

Totally surrounding the cockpit area, when activated it immediately seals off the cockpit and is jettisoned via explosive bolts. More like a small ship in its own right rather than the familiar capsules, the craft is armour plated and is fitted w/ an RLF3 engine capable of a top speed of .150LM, three time that of a common capsule, increasing the chances of a safe return to a station. Inside, the vessel displays the same level of luxury and technology as the MkI, including a bespoke HUD, Corcom trading terminal, and inflight comms unit.

In addition to the civilian vessel, it has been confirmed by Naval spokesmen that Isis Interstellar have produced a dedicated military variant of the ship.

As the conflict w/ the Thargoid still rages in Witch Space, the 138th SOAR found themselves needing support craft as well as fighting vessels. The King Cobra operates as supply craft and medevac vessel as well as being able to scoop ejected pilots if the aliens don’t find them first. The craft is protected by additional heavy metal plates, armoured louvres protecting engine components and uprated R-Kane generators powering some very substantial shields and weapon systems, though exact details are highly classified. Additionally, the ship carries four ASM-16D high speed ECM-hardened missiles on external pylons.

The most striking difference between this and the civilian version is that the ship is powered by the same type of engine as the Spectre, reverse- engineered from Thargoid technology.

Used exclusively by Damage, Inc. they are rarely seen on the spaceways and will probably only be encountered if you are unlucky enough to misjump.
