FE Shipyards, as technology arm of the Galactic Guild of Elite Traders (G.E.T.), long ago inherited several ages-old and obscure patents from our parent body, and are now in the felicitous position of being able to offer some of these arcane technologies to you, our regular and valued customer.

One of these, now adapted to all of the more recent ships in the inventory, is known as the Laser Reflector Shield.

Operation and Function

To put it succinctly, and to avoid technical jargon as far as possible, here is how we describe the LRS in our brochure:

Lasers are photons = light. A mirror reflects light. The Guild long ago used this simple precept to develop a defensive force-field to achieve precisely this: Reflect and throw back an attacking ship's laser rays to their source. Results are as one might expect: 'No... NO... NO!...!!'

Our LRS can be picked up, installed at a modest cost by our technicians, from the Equipment section of most reputable shipyards on sufficiently advanced stations.

Use

The LRS becomes active only when weapons-status is OFFLINE. Our software assumes that if the ship's weapons are 'hot', the pilot of said ship wishes to engage her/his/its/their attacker with her/his/its/their own onboard weaponry.

With weapons OFFLINE, the LRS circuitry becomes operational and a 'mirror force field' then protectively envelops the user's vessel. All laser blasts finding their mark are reflected back directly to source, reduced in power only by a small fraction, as is the case with any terrestrial mirror.

We offer the option, via your F4 Interfaces, to tailor and tweak the controlling software as to sensitivity of the LRS. Experiment. Settings here will depend on the strength of your ship's regular shields and their energy-recharge rate.

In general, and depending on the power and accuracy of the laser, expect some damage to be dealt by an attacker before the LRS achieves its ultimate purpose - the destruction of the vessel that is firing.
