What should this page really be doing?
Jason Togneri's original was presumably a comparison of ship types in the various precursors of Oolite. And possibly in Oolite too.
It is not a dynamic list, and so is presumably not the way to keep track of all the ship models available in Oolite itself.
If we keep it to it's original function, then we might wish to make sure that it is properly linked-in to any relevant wiki pages - and possibly any other relevant internet sites too.

Ideally I think this would be a sortable table of the historical 'canon'/'ascended fanon' ships, just linking to other pages that would be updated as required to cover OXPs.
Continuing to honor the exact games listed here seems to make as much sense as any other definition of purity imo (Elite, Elite-A, unreleased Elite 2, ArcElite, MSX/Amiga, Frontier, Frontier 2)
I would be happy to go ahead and unify the layout of all of these 60 or so individual classic ship pages, ensuring each distinct ship has its own page (variations would be covered on the ship's main page) and they're all formatted similarly, containing links to relevant sites and preserving the core canon ship data from the games/instruction manuals/etc... These pages, I envision, would then provide an obvious link back to a disambiguation page, or directly link to the relevant Oolite OXP(s) under a Links header at the bottom of the page.
Even if I get the go-ahead though, I'd want to take some time to compile all the information needed first and settle on some universal formatting, not start wildly hacking away at the existing foundations. Any thoughts?

There's nobody in charge. If it makes sense to you - and if you would enjoy doing it - go right ahead!
Personally I feel it important (broadening) that the other variants of Elite are still on this wiki - hence my attempts to add a little more in when I find something relevant. I have no knowledge of Frontier or FFE.
The one chap you might wish to consult with would be Steve who occasionally makes an appearance. Probably best to try him at his website which he updates monthly. Possibly also User:Winston, but he only appears in extremis - and he's removed a lot of stuff from the backside of this wiki (https://alioth.net/).
But with the wiki's history tab, you can just hack away and then recover the original if needed, later.
