Story

The original Kestros was a failure due to numerous problems, including, but not limited to, propulsion systems that explode "after prolonged use", shields that fail after a few hits, and fuel scoops would not work at all (scooping a cargo pod caused a chain reaction that destroyed the entire ship).

After much work, Koneko Inddustries gave up on the project entirely, saying, "This ship is a nightmare. The only people who we would sell this ship to would be pirates."

After a while, Koneko Industries set out to make the Kestros Mk2, using the only three surviving Kestros prototypes. It had many of the same problems as a result, and could only safely reach .1 LM.

Koneko Industries had at this point spent over a million credits on the project, and were deep in debt. So, they tried a third time, but morale had suffered a hit, and internally, the word Kestros had come to mean failure.

So, Koneko Industries abandoned the project. They then paid off their debt thanks to the successful Koneko Kobra. They then set out to build the Massasauga and the Takina Class.

After those projects were almost done, Koneko Industries CEO Ryan Hoots pushed for the continuation of the Kestros project. A prototype, named Taki, had been built from scratch to test a new engine configuration, and some plasma guns, so Koneko Indusries' best engineers cleaned it up, and started mass-producing it as the Kestros Mk4, which, miraculously, worked. This proved that the furry pink birds were lying when they said that the Lord Giles had put a curse on the Kestros project.
