Background

Ramon Security Limited invested a large amount of their company's net worth in producing the Daemon Class Cruiser. Following the refusal of the bid by GalCop in favour of the Behemoth, the company entered a nearly terminal period of decline.

The company's fortunes were revived by the interest shown in the Daemon Class Cruiser design by the fowl {sic!} Dictator Tarkin, Governor of the Eszausveian Dictatorship. The Governor demanded a design brief that required two well-equipped ships to destroy rebel elements in space as well as the power to crush insurgent ground forces.

The Daemon more than matched the brief in terms of space combat, but was incapable of planetary "crowd control".

Notable Features and Service Deployment

In response RaSeL produced the Scorpion. The company had a well deserved reputation for customising existing Serpent Class Ships to meet new briefs. The basic Python chassis underwent a radical re-design, with total remodelling to the cargo bay and the adding of aero-foil wings which, along with intrinsic damping systems controlling the dangerous gravitic harmonics caused by the engines, allow the Scorpion to operate within an atmosphere.

The Scorpion sports Military Grade shields and power cores and is more than capable of holding its own against most space-born agressors. However, the true purpose of the Scorpion is to cow often rebellious populations. The sight of a Scorpion hovering over a rebel village is often sufficent to ensure that the population will swear Loyalty Oaths to the Top Bird. If this strategy fails, it is standard practice for the Scorpion to make strafing runs over the village. The "collateral damage" caused by such runs is usually sufficent to ensure compliance.

Although the Scorpion only has a 10 ton cargo bay, it is fitted with life support systems. This is so that if all else fails the Scorpion can deploy fifty members of "The Guardians of Order", the callous, but fearsomely effective, elite military commandoes trained and deployed by the Eszausveian Dictatorship. These Bird Special Forces are known for their horrific treatment of captured opponents and have been the cause of one of GalCop's many censures against Governor Tarkin's administration. Alas, they continue under Tarkin's protective wing, ever ready to descend on troublesome rebels wielding 0.1Mw laser rifles and pulse grenades against armed foes and torture implements to extract information from the broken beaks of so-called 'Pro-democracy Idealists'.

Ramon Security Limited were, of course, throughly appalled to learn about the methods used by their erstwhile saviours and vowed to discontinue selling Scorpions to Governor Tarkin's regime. However, someone is continuing to supply these fearsomely effective ships to the Eszausveians.
