Rob Nicholson was the the lead programmer of the 16 bit Amiga/Atari ST and the MSX conversions of Elite in 1987.

The context of the project is that due to "contractual quirks", he did not have access to the original source code, only the wireframe shapes and the procedural generation code for the galaxies. Hence the reason that the MSX, Amiga and ST versions differ from the BBC Micro version is that with the aid of his friend Alex King, he was forced to do the programming "blind", i.e. build a visual copy of the game.
