Rob Nicholson

From Elite Wiki

Rob Nicholson was the the lead programmer of the MSX Elite and the 16 bit Amiga and Atari ST ports of Elite, released during 1987-1988.

The context of the project is that due to "contractual quirks", he did not have access to the original source code, only the wireframe shapes and the procedural generation code for the galaxies. Hence the reason that the MSX, Amiga and ST versions differ from the BBC Micro version is that Nicholson and his friend Alex King were forced to do the programming "blind", i.e. construct a visual interpretation of the game.

Changes in this evolution include the introduction of the Wolf Mk II and the Cougar, as well as new secret missions.
