The 'Rapier' type Cobra Mk. III is an advancement from the original designed for the 'fighter/trader who is more a fighter than trader. Wolfwood Interstellar Technologies (WIT) constructed the Rapier with a more streamlined profile, almost half the height of the original Cobra MK. III, with an eye to reducing the chance of incoming fire hitting. This did present a problem, as the main reason for the old Cobra's height was the large Kruger 'Lightfast' drives. This was quickly solved when a fresh young engineer made the innocent comment, "Can't we just lie them on their sides?". Thus the Rapier achieved it's aim of decreasing it's profile at the expense of an increase in width and loss of cargo space. When the prototype was almost ready for full production, the technical branch of WIT discovered that they could alter the output from the Kruger drives, pushing the ship's speed by 0.03 LM. Not a great leap in terms of the engines currently available today, but surprising from an engine design that is approaching 70 years old. The secret of this has remained classified and only the top research technicians of WIT are privy to it.
