Overview

The Gyr is the latest in a long line of single-seater combat craft, which neither excels nor fails at its intended job. It has plenty of power and is an enjoyable craft to fly, both in space and atmosphere.

Notable Features

One thing which can be said about the Gyr is that it is rare enough and unusual-looking enough to turn a few heads. The major feature is the unique curved tail, the purpose of which has never been explained by its designers. It is widely thought that it helps the ship's stability in a dense planetary atmosphere, but no-one really knows.

Disadvantages

The one major problem with this ship is the lack of a rear view screen. Again, no explanation for this has been forthcoming from the designers - sparking rumours that it was an oversight rather than a feature - but the truth is that this makes the Gyr a risky ship to take into even remotely dangerous systems, where you are likely to be attacked from all sides, including the rear.

Verdict

Some ships in FFE seem slapped together at the last minute, the Gyr is one of them. The first thing you notice it that the back view does not work. At first this does not seem a problem but it soon starts to irritate you. Standard acceleration and retros make this a mediocre ship at best. With the added irritation of no back view you will soon trade this ship in.
