BackStory

Oodulldoff Inc.

Ky'fyn Oodulldoff, the current CSO of Oodulldoff Inc., is a very long lived reptilian who trained as a cyber engineer. He was downsized from the Zorgon Petterson Group following its purchase by Faulcon de Lacy in 3126, because he had managed to accumulate a significant amount of data about the legality of the take-over he was paid off with a substantial bonus to ease any legal manoeuvres which may have slowed the take-over down. He moved to Benulobiweed Inc. but following its re-organisation and rumours of industrial espionage he was forced to move again. This time to Executive SpaceWays, however with his background causing problems he was forced to move on yet again. He decided to investigate Galaxy 6. Months spent inhabiting many Seedy bars and listening to the general bar-room gossip, he decided to see if Veisin could provide the sort of base that he intended to try and build. It was and still is an average agricultural planet with all most no redeeming features, except that fairly close by are 2 high-level industrial planets.

So he established a small workshop in Lobbie's Can-Can Lounge on Veisin, initially helping to maintain the Lounges' equipment. Using most of his available cash he purchased a relatively old Cobra Mark III and started to update its avionics to his design. Rumours started to circulate that this ship had some very interesting abilities and it was not long before Ky'fyn started to get some offers that it was difficult to refuse, so he didn't. He slowly built up a lucrative business based on improving ships for some of the bar's customers.

Needing more room Ky'fyn was lucky enough to find a deserted rock hermits? asteroid and moved the workshop to it, the extra room enabling him to employ some extra engineers from Radiesar and Ananri, whilst still spending a fair percentage of his time at the lounge in order to continue to attract custom.

This state of affairs continued for several years during which time Ky'fyn managed to ease his way into the planet's various organisations. Being an agricultural anarchy with little heavy industry they usually found the need to bring in repair and construction crews from the industrial planets near by at very high cost, to aid in the planetary disputes. Ky'fyn being based in the Veisin system could always under cut these quotes and soon became the sole supplier for engineering support to the planet.

This slowly enabled him to build and equip a small force to provide local pirate suppression. As the profits mounted the asteroid was slowly disappearing beneath the station construction which was proceeding. Today the only part of the asteroid left is the reception desk.

Ky'fyn finally decided that it was time for the next step, that of starting to build his own versions of various ship types. He started with a trader design that would allow him to use his own transports to ship people, spare parts and materials around the local region, thus reducing costs. This ship design, the Draven Trader, soon began to develop a reputation for resilience and being able to look after itself, which did no harm to the Oodulldoff Inc.'s reputation. The Draven Raider was next providing the start to a set of purpose built defense ships for the now sizable station. A fleet of six Raiders and the additional defences of the station proved sufficient to deter most local criminal gangs from attempting to raid the station and those that did attempt a raid just disappeared. The last real raid on the station nearly breached its innermost defences and resulted in the development of the Draven Gunship, a formidable ship with little in the way of anything other than offensive and defensive kit, based largely on the Raider hull design but with additional plasma turrets. It was quickly decided that a number of these new ships would be added to the station's patrol force. The advent of the Draven Gunship to the stable meant that Oodulldoff Inc. now began to be more visible in the military and security market sectors.

In an attempt to add more market penetration in these sectors the Operation Analysis group were given the task to try and identify any significant discrepancies in the available ship types and to determine whether it would be possible to design and build ships to fill these identified gaps.

The first such gap that was identified was for a medium carrier, the Draven Carrier was born. This ship is small enough to allow docking in a normal station to provide easy replenishment of supplies but big enough to carry 4 or 5 of the smaller fighters and provide repair and replenishment facilities. Whilst any significant number of these ships have so far yet to be built it is understood, following an article in Jane's Fighting Spacecraft, that a number of military authorities have been carrying out fleet exercises to identify possible tactics and uses for these ships. It has been suggested that a Draven Carrier with 4 or 5 Asps or Adders and accompanied by a Draven Gunship or 2 would provide a very capable fleet to track and destroy pirate groups or that Carriers could provide additional replenishment and repair facilities for the smaller ships when accompanying Behemoths. It has recently been rumoured that Draven Carrier-based groups have been acting to support the Ramaza Liberation Front, but this cannot be confirmed.

The second gap that the R&D section was set to work on was the design of a heavy fighter, this would be a ship which could, in the right hands, be capable of taking on a Thargoid cruiser or may be even a battleship. The current design, called the Kracken, is in prototype testing, with first reports from the test pilots suggesting that it might need to be bigger to allow for more shield generation equipment to improve the survivability. An initial group of six ships have been constructed to assess operations and vulnerability.

Plans for future expansion of the station are also being developed with the possibility of the construction of a fourth ring to provide additional design, office and workshop facilities. There are also rumours of a sun mining vessel, a small fairly slow ship with good heat shielding and a number of pylons to carry sun skimmer pods.

The company continues to expand and is currently trying to reduce the anarchy of the planet. It is believed that the company would like the planet to be transformed into a corporate world since this will provide for more expansion and a more stable operating environment.

Notes

Ironfist's thoughts about this oxp:

I have a series of very similar ships that I might release if people like them. This one (Draven Gunship) might be a bit too über for most.
The turrets are plasma turrets, it is intended to be an escort vessel for what I would class as a fleet carrier, a ship that is capable of carrying about 6 ships and just about fittable in a normal docking bay on a station. The blocky shape allows most of the internal volume to be for power generation seeing as the engines are outside.

My thoughts are that the fleet carrier will be the mother ship for a group operating in the same manner as the Resistance Commander OXP. (2011)

Draven is a range of ships, there is also a smaller shuttle, a similar sized ship to the gunship with less guns and more cargo space, a trader which is a fair bit bigger and finally a carrier which is just small enough to allow docking at normal stations and behemoths.
