The Roh'i family are unique among the Lizard species. While the root genetics are distinctly Tionislan, the Roh'i are mutants, whether natural or artificially induced is lost in time. This family of dracolids are high metabolism, endothermic carnivores, surpassing humans in physical size, strength and endurance. Most surviving Roh'i are hybrids, as their mutation allows crossbreeding with other Lizard genomes.

Once homesteaded on [[Sector1/Tionisla|Tionisla]], but since the Exodus, (see Drew Wagar's [[Oolite Saga]]) occupies several large habitat stations scattered in Chart 2, from which they operate Roh'i Enterprises, a trading and mining corporation.

Hatched the third eldest of three brothers and two sisters, to Tael Roh'i, father, and Irrae Path-Roh'i, mother. The family Boa was destroyed by a pirate gang, taking Tael, Irrae, and a younger brother with it.

Derik was engaged in his own trading ventures when he heard the news. Immediately, he set about equipping his battered, used Cobra 3, with revenge burning in his soul. Thus began Derik's career as a ruthless slayer of pirates. A bounty hunter.

In a daring and brutal one Lizard assault on a slaver base with a heart full of rage and a heavy rotorgun, Derik ruthlessly mowed down most of the gang of criminals, ending in a blaster duel with the slaver boss, a disgusting, bloated, sadistic bastard of a toad. Derik lost an eye when shot in the face, but killed the monster by driving a dagger through his skull. This heroic action rescued '''Raminia DeFloreza''', a spunky leonic that proved to be a quite talented technician; Derik later adopted her.

Getting involved in the test pilot program of '''Pteradyne Tech. Inc.''' was of no small consequence; though the work of flying unproven prototype spacecraft was risky, the pay was good, and cemented Derik's career path. The Cobra could win some furballs, but it was by no means a dedicated combat thoroughbred, and Roh'i was seeking a deadly combat craft.

This eventually led to test piloting the [[Kirin|Kirin]] prototype in the employ of [[Udian Shulth]], which in turn led to the [[Thargoid]] invasion of [[Sector1/Tibecea|Tibecea]] system, and a turning point in Derik's life. Derik fitted the ''Tiomat'' with an AI, as the ship needed a second crewbeing to serve as a technician. This worked out well, but turned out to be a mistake; the AI proved too stupid to keep up with exceptionally demanding tasks.

Derik eventually had the ''Tiomat'' upgraded to an M variant, and repainted in a striking gold and deep purple motif. At this time, the AI was supplemented with a felinoid orphan that Roh'i rescued from a slaver, Raminia "Kitten" DeFloreza, a spunky little leonic that proved to be a quite talented technician; Roh'i wound up losing an eye in a blaster duel with her captor.

Over time the pair continued, breaking up slaver and pirate rings together, with side forays into test piloting.

This eventually led to test piloting the [[Kirin|Kirin]] prototype in the employ of Udian Shulth, which in turn led to the Thargoid invasion of Tibecia system. Roh'i is noted as one of the heroes of that battle, that saved several platoons of space marines from the doomed station, but losing the ''Lady Tiomat'' to theft. The Kirin prototype, dubbed ''Therenback'', was donated to the GalCop History Museum at Lave.

Roh'i currently captains the [[Caduceus|Caduceus]] Omega ''Persistence Of Memory'' with Raminia and assorted crew. It's assumed that he's working with the Shulths, as like most known Caduceus ships, the ''Persistence Of Memory'' appears without warning in the most heated battles, ruthlessly destroys a vast number of hostiles, recovers loot, rescues ejected pilots, then just as mysteriously vanishes.

Legal history:

- 12 minor moving violations, fines paid in full, all charges cleared.

- Accused of 2 counts of shooting down innocent traders during combat with aggressive pirates, but never proven, case dismissed. Derik's flight recorder was damaged and offlined during the battle. Derik was not able to collect the bounty pay.

- Thought to have been involved in the Orrora Orb invasion incident. Facts unknown, due to military coverup. Derik denies ever seeing an Orb.

- Known to have singlehandedly hunted down and systematically exterminated members of the slaving ring "Harbringers of doom".

- Thought to have murdered General Gouglass vor Cheem by some military brass, yet witnesses to the events in the Tibecia Invasion dispute that claim.

Trivia:

- Known to snipe targets at long range, rarely engages at close ranges.

- Known for a certain coolness under fire, a degree of ruthlessness in battle, and a tendency to stand firm in defense of friends regardless of bodily harm or personal cost, qualities that have earned him respect among peers, and fear among outlaws.

- Known to have a taste for Onatian Bloodwine, chocolate-covered fried Lavian tree grubs, and flame-grilled BBQ trumble burgers.

- Defines Zero-Gee sports as "Like a perpetual motion machine, it simply doesn't work and wastes everyone's time". Defines docking computers as "Murphy's Law Incarnate: Prone to go wrong at the most inappropriate moment".

- Defines Boyracers as "Target drones with a laser, a mouth and an attitude, but a milligram of brain and even less sense".

- Sometimes seen speaking with, and trading in small quantities of salvaged spare parts, tools, and liqueur with another space operating reptiloid, a presumed business associate. == Overview ==

The military have never been known to do things by halves and their planet-station-space supply logistic solution, definitely isn't one of them. Sporting a fearsome array of counter ship weaponry and a dedicated four ship strong viper escort; this machine is seen by many as the universal swiss army knife in the ongoing Thargoid war. They can be seen all over the 8 galaxies moving back a forth between insurgent hot spots, keeping the larger capital ships constantly supplied with goods and troopers.

There very little about this ship that can be explained in diminutive terms . It is huge by conventional ship standards, being able to easily hide 2 Anacondas flying abreast beneath its massive tapered wing. This massive superstructure allows for the transport of up to 400 tons of cargo (uncompressed) ready for speedy deployment. Although it can fit in a standard station landing dock, it is something of a close fit requiring either a docking computer or a highly trained (and somewhat fool hardy) pilot. As a result it is most at home making planet fall or docking with military capital ships. It can even be docked with a hermit. Its long nose proving just long enough to clamp onto the docking bay without smashing the tail end of the ship into the rest of the asteroid. But again this pass time is best left to the highly skilled or clinically insane. Then there are the expansive weapon systems; 4 laser hard points and a withering number of defensive flak batteries. Even the rear of the Kirin is heavily defended with two medium yield plasma turrets with interlacing fields of fire. If this wasn't enough, all military Kirins still on active duty are escorted by four Red-Knight Squadron military vipers. These compact but tough fighters can take the fight to the enemy, whilst the Kirin either supplies support fire or puts some distance between itself and any assailant .

Additionally as a purely defensive measure the ship itself is bound by a "Halo" armoured ring. This structure situated along its middle cross section and flanks, can soak up a large amount of damage that would have other wise weakened the main ship. All in all, the Kirin is a difficult target to crack, perfect for blockade smashing and ground force deployment.

== Notable features ==
The ex-military version comes with flak weapons intact, a large hold and a comprehensive capacity for add ons. This is the perfect ship for the rich (but wanting to be richer) nervous traders. This ship has opened up a number of systems to captains who would otherwise be pirate cannon fodder. There is of coure a trade off for all that fire power. The Kirin does fight like a battle ship but she also moves like a slug.

The Civilian ship however was built more for the mass carrier in mind. With only 4 turrets in total, an extra 50 tons of space has been freed up for cargo. This variant although underpowered for anarchy systems is still a tough ship if properly escorted.

== Controversy ==
The history of the Kirin (as with all things military) is some what sketchy. No one ship yard appears to be able to lay claim to designing it. One day it didn't exist the next, everyone was manufacturing one. This did enable the military to quickly fulfill their own needs and leave enough left over to cater for the rich trader market. There is a lucrative trade in surplus and "unrepairable" war damaged Kirin, due to the massive amount of fire they can put into the sky around them. Although fearsome to look at, the damage caused by these weapons is well within the capabilities of most ships to take for a short period. Leading to claims that the flak cannons where probably used for their psychological impact more than their physical one.

This ship is recorded as first seeing action during the TIBECIA Incident. The ship in question broke from the main battle group to conduct a lighting rescue of the Tibecian stations remaining personnel. Fighting through formidable Thargoid forces in order to do so. This apparent prototype was later procured by the GalCop History Museum, where it is on permanent display in a specially constructed dry dock on the outskirts of their Lave facility.

As so many manufactures were involved in building the Kirin, it stands to reason that at least one would alter the design and manufacture an unofficial, chopped variant. Thusly the existence of the [http://www.box.net/shared/bcj2vjzh6q Kirin Sport], manufactured by a racing mod shipyard as a smaller, faster, more agile - and less well armed - civilian variant.
