Overview
Extra Thargoids adds more varieties of Thargoid ships, each of which includes new surprises!

:(1) Thargoid Gruntbuggly (which is tough-ish, large, fairly sluggish, and has a trick or two up its insectly sleeve!)
:(2) Thargoid Terroriser Frigate: anti-Poet variant.
:(3) Thargoid Minesweeper

: This OXP works best with the Thargorn Threat OXP. (Tested with Thargorn Threat version 1.5.)
Acknowledgements
This OXP derives in considerable part from the Thargorn Threat OXP. That OXP was created by 'Arexack_Heretic' and modified by Eric Walch, who himself in so doing drew upon a version of the freaky thargoid shader by Ahruman. The Thargoid Threat OXP contains this statement: 'Created under Creative Commons Licence, as expansion on Oolite, created by Giles Williams (Aegidian). Look the relevant stuff up at http://oolite.aegidian.org. In short however; anyone is welcome to expand to or use parts of this OXP as long as credit is given where due, and as long as not in any commercial enterprise.' I am happy to give that credit!

The 'displacement' code in one of my scripts owes to Thargoid's Armoury OXP.

The displacement sound is an OGG conversion of 'stk-DM300_18.wav', which is a sound provided, under the Creative Commons License and via www.freesound.org/, by user 'stk'.

Other materials are adapted from stuff built-in to Oolite. For the license for Oolite itself, see the OoliteReadMe.pdf file included with that program.

Provides various multi-warhead, semi-automatically-targeting, missiles. Available for purchase in various locations.

Overview
The expansion pack provides various types of so-called 'Nexus' missiles, namely (1) the 'basic' version, (2) the 'premium' version, (3) the 'ultimate' version, and (4) the 'Bug-Off' anti-Thargoid missile. (And the Bug-Off version sometimes comes in a possibly faulty 'naval reject' variety. . .)

Each type of missile is launched in the normal way, i.e. it sits in a pylon, is armed, then targeted, and then launched.

Each of the types of nexus missile splits into multiple warheads once it reaches a certain distance from its target and, again in the case of every version of the missile, these warheads pick targets automatically. In the case of the Bug-Off missile, the targets are determined by type of ship: this missile is for use against Thargoids! In the case of all the other types of Nexus missile, a warhead will target a ship if it was the original target of the missile or if it is hostile to (has weapons locked on) the ship that launched the missile.

The number of warheads released, their speed, the amount of damage they can take, their degree of ECM-resistance, and how much damage they deal - all this varies from the 'basic' version to the 'premium' version to the 'ultimate'. When you find an instance of one of the versions in a shipyard you can get a description of it. In short, though: the basic version should get two or three attackers off your back for a while and perhaps destroy them if they are damaged already. The premium version does that, but a bit more so. The ultimate version becomes four warheads (all the others become three, except the Bug-Off version which becomes five) and those warheads are very fast and each does more damage than a normal missile - often much more damage, because of the speed. That version - the 'ultimate' version - is a fairly deadly weapon. Consequently it is very expensive.

Varieties
Nexus Bug-Off Missile: Nexus naval anti-thargoid missile. TL13, 8,250₢

Nexus Bug-Off Missile (naval reject): Nexus anti-thargoid missile. From a batch that failed the rather demanding naval quality control. More than 50% off! TL3, 4,000₢

Nexus Missile (ultimate version): Nexus anti-hostile ECM-hardened multi-missile, 'ultimate' version. FOUR heavy warheads. Everything fuel-injected. TL12, 5,600₢

Nexus Missile (premium version): Nexus anti-hostile ECM-hardened multi-missile. This is the premium version with three fast warheads, each almost as powerful as a normal missile. TL9, 1,900₢

Nexus Missile: Nexus anti-hostile ECM-hardened multi-missile. Releases three warheads: TL8, 1,095₢
A message from our sponsors
<blockquote>Presenting the Fer-de-Lance 3G

The Zorgon Petterson Group proudly announce the 3G – ‘third generation’ – series of Fer-de-Lance ships.

The original Fer-de-Lance (Oolite) did not compromise in its pursuit of style, luxury, and engineering excellence. Yet, in other respects, and especially as time passed, the ship left something to be desired. The subsequent NG (‘next generation’) model of the Fer-de-Lance gave the ship the speed that it had always looked as though it had, and increased the rather limited amount of energy banks of the original model; but it did those things at the cost of cargo capacity and weapons systems. Then came the Mussurana Void-Yacht. The Mussurana – which departed somewhat from the aesthetics of the previous models – increased cargo capacity, manoeuvrability, energy, and shield- and missile-capability. But, exciting though it was, the ‘yacht’ was slow compared to the NG and was not quite as fearsome as one might want.

The Fer-de-Lance 3G models, which return to the shape of the original Fer-de-Lance, are the sharks of the Fer-de-Lance ecology. They have a respectable proportion of the NG’s speed but thoroughly outdo the NG, and indeed the Mussurana, in nearly all other respects, including (1) compromise in build-quality; and they are pre-fitted with an impressive range of equipment.

There are three 3G models. The 3G is the standard version. The 3G+ is a superior, and larger, ship. It offers the most capacious hold of any Fer-de-Lance class ship. Moreover: with eight energy banks, six missile slots, an improved energy-recharge rate, shield boosters fitted as standard, and (like the 3G) the capacity for military shield enhancement, the 3G+ can easily be made fully ‘iron-assed’. Finally, and for the commander in search of ‘über-icity’, there is the 3G+(t), which incorporates two side-mounted plasma turrets. Those turrets pack a good punch and fire to the ship’s fore, port, and starboard.(2)

The table below allows comparison of all of the different models of the Fer-de-Lance (except for police and military versions of the 3G+(t), the specifications of which are classified).

----

Footnotes
(1) The accuracy of the 3G models’ lasers can result in a visual ‘cross pattern’ when firing.
(2) The turrets very slightly reduce the ship’s energy-recharge capacity.</blockquote>

Make interstellar space more exciting!

.

Overview
This OXP makes misjumps a little more likely and, fairly often, generates one of various (mostly) exciting witchspace scenarios.

Requirements
* The expansion pack requires Oolite version 1.82 or above.
* The pack draws upon various other expansion packs, if they are installed. (See below.)

General notes
The scenarios at issue include, but are not limited to, the following things happening within interstellar space.

* Encountering the navy battling thargoids (though some other OXPs provide something on those lines).
* Having your escape pod rescued. (Hooray! The chance of rescue is increased by having the 'electronic thumb'.)
* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)
* Finding derelicts within interstellar space.

Also, though this is something that happens when one leaves witchspace: this OXP gives you a chance of ending up near - or, er, very near - the system's sun. (Er . . handy?)

Relation to other expansion packs
OXPs which Interstellar Tweaks enhances/uses

Interstellar Tweaks can draw upon all of the following (and indeed more, but in a fairly trivial way). Yet, Interstellar Tweaks does not require any of them.

:* Armoury.
:* Behemoth.
:* Breakable WitchDrive.
:* Escape Pod Locator.
:* Extra Thargoids.
:* Fer-de-Lance 3G.
:* Fuel Collector.
:* Galactic Navy - which is not in the expansion-pack manager; see Galactic Navy OXP for download details; there are several variants to choose between.
:* Generation Ships.
:* Griff's shipset expansion packs - for, especially, nice looking thargoids!
:* Interstellar Help.
:* Military Fiasco.
:* Missionaries.
:* mPakRedux (a.k.a. 'Rusties') - not in the expansion-pack manager; see Second-hand ships for download details.
:* To Catch a Thargoid.
:* Thargoid Carrier - not in the expansion-pack manager (and the Carrier OXP will considerably increase the thargoid threat - though the Fer-de-Lance 3G OXP will somewhat offset that).
:* Thargorn Threat. This one makes the thargoids more dangerous, but not as dangerous as if one installed Thargorn Threat but not Interstellar Tweaks!
:* Tionisla Orbital Graveyard, together with its 'TOGY_Shipwreck pack'.

When one installs Interstellar Tweaks via the in-game expansion-pack manager, that manager will suggest some of the foregoing OXPs - but only, for one thing, those that are actually available via that manager. (A word here on the other exceptions - i.e., the OXPs of which this one can make use, but which it does not suggest for installation, even though they are in the Manager. Each such other OXP either adds little to Interstellar Tweaks or else add things that one might not want or at least do not need. Of the OXPs that are ``not`` in the Manager, Interstellar Tweaks benefits from, especially, the Missionaries OXP. One should consider too the Thargoid Carrier OXP.)

Compatibility

Interstellar tweaks tries to be compatible with the following, further, expansion packs.

* Wormhole Restoration.

Other points
* The load that Interstellar Tweaks will place on your computer will be, for the most part, light to moderate (and, mostly, via CPU much more than RAM and graphics card). That is so especially for Interstellar Tweaks version ≥ 7.5. Yet, if you install many expansion packs with which Interstellar Tweaks can interact, then that will increase the load.

* The difficulty of this expansion pack varies automatically, in various ways, with the player's Elite Rating.

* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)
* Finding derelicts within interstellar space.

Also, though this is something that happens when one leaves witchspace: this OXP gives you a chance of ending up near - or, er, very near - the system's sun. (Er . . handy?)

Relation to other expansion packs

(2) The turrets very slightly reduce the ship’s energy-recharge capacity.</blockquote>
.

* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)

* The pack draws upon various other expansion packs, if they are installed. (See below.)

General notes
The scenarios at issue include, but are not limited to, the following things happening within interstellar space.

* Encountering the navy battling thargoids (though some other OXPs provide something on those lines).
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)

Of the OXPs that are ``not`` in the Manager, Interstellar Tweaks benefits from, especially, the Missionaries OXP.)

Compatibility

Interstellar tweaks tries to be compatible with the following, further, expansion packs.

* Galactic Misjump - not in the expansion-pack manager.
* Galactic Navy - not in the expansion-pack manager.
* Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy - at least up to a point.
* Misjump Analyser.
* Staer9 Spectre - not in the expansion-pack manager.
* Thargoid Witchspace Drive - not in the expansion-pack manager.
* Wormhole drones - not in the expansion-pack manager.
* [Wormhole_Restoration https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Wormhole_restoration_OXP].

Giles's thoughts
Needs an introduction explaining what a state-machine is and how Oolite uses them in its AI.

Also how AI receive messages (in the form of strings) and processes messages about every five seconds (depending on the pauseAI set), except when asked to react to a certain message.

A simple state machine should be given as an example and then shown as a property list.

Note that I'm likely to expand the use of AI in Oolite:- ship pilots will also have AI which will receive copies of messages sent to the ship's AI, but pilots AI's will perform a more 'strategic' role.

--Aegidian 11:22, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Hmm.. I did refer somewhere to AIreference.htm residing in the oolite folder, that file contains a reasonably coherent explanation on AI-states and messages.
'AddFuel #' ... is it not 'awardFuel #'?
Rather more excitement in interstellar space!

* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)
* Finding derelicts within interstellar space.

Also, though this is something that happens when one leaves witchspace: this OXP gives you a chance of ending up near - or, er, very near - the system's sun. (Er . . handy?)
Introduction
Interstellar space is a treacherous territory, and misjumps are dangerous. It's not only what you may meet out there, it's the sheer fact that you may get stranded in the vast voids of interstellar space forever. Initiating a witchjump and creating the tunnel through witchspace consumes fuel. So if—for whatever reason—the tunnel collapses halfway on your journey to the next planet, you are thrown out somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in the vast realms of ghastly, pale green half-light, your fuel tanks nearly depleted, possibly with not enough fuel left to create another tunnel to the closest system.

Many pilots have just vanished without a trace in the boundless void. Some ships have said to be found drifting into the outer zones of an adjacent system—but only decades after their life support systems ran out of energy.

So the family of space-farers gets even closer together in the uncanny zone of interstellar space, where everybody is far away from home, and everybody may find himself at the mercy of fellow captains, or be lost in space forever. One for all, and all for one—although for anybody in the dire straits of need for fuel help comes with a price.

Overview
Helping others
This OXP introduces some interaction with fellow commanders in interstellar space. You may meet another trader who got stuck in interstellar space who sends distress calls and asks for your help. He is willing to pay a good price for some fuel from your tanks, or for a ride in your wake. If you are in the mood to help him, just answer his call by flying towards him. You will have to get closer than 1000 meters in order to make clear that you are there for him.

He then will either be wanting to buy some fuel from you, or request to follow through your wormhole, after you have jumped to your destination. If you agree to sell him some of your fuel reserves, you just have to get very close to him. So close that he can scoop any of the fuel you are venting from your tanks. The process starts automatically, monitored by your ship's computer, as soon as you have approached him closely enough. If you want to end the transaction you just have to turn your nose away from his scoops. If you do not do so, he will take all the fuel you have until his tanks are completely filled. The usual price for a fuel transfer so far away from the next supplier is ten times what you would pay at a main station.

If he asks you for a witchspace ride, all you have to do is jump to your current destination. After you have jumped to any system within your reach, he will follow you through your wormhole (note that he will not jump out at the exact same location as you; wormhole ends are a tiny little bit fuzzy, which means that ships leaving the same wormhole will all be somewhere in the vicinity of the witchpoint, but not at the exact same place). You will have earned the eternal gratitude of a fellow trader, and a financial reward, which will always be enough to cover your fuel costs for the jump.

Need help yourself?
But what if you are stuck in interstellar space yourself? Do not despair, that's where your Electronic Thumb comes in handy. Available from any equipment store of techlevel 7 or higher, the Electronic Thumb is a short squat black rod, smooth and matte with a couple of flat switches and dials at one end. Just activate it any time during flight to flag down passing spacecraft to either buy fuel from them or hitch a ride in their wormhole. Note that the Electronic Thumb only works if you need it, that is in interstellar space. If you're in a system it does nothing.

After you have activated it, just wait a little for a ship approaching you with the offer to help you. Again you have to close in to him in order to accept the offer. Depending on his mood he may offer you to buy some of his fuel reserves, or to take a ride through his wormhole. This time it is you, of course, who has to pay the price.

Again, if you agreed on a fuel transaction, you have to get close enough to scoop the fuel he is going to vent from his tanks, and again your ship's computer takes care of monitoring the transaction. You can end the transfer anytime, by pointing your ship's nose (and therefore your fuel scoops) away from your donor. The transaction will also end if you run out of money. And your benefactor will not sell all his fuel—he is going to need some for his own journey, after all.

If the offer is to take a ride in his wormhole, he will initiate his jump and invite you to follow him. In that case you are supposed to pay him on the other side. Oh, in order to allow him to initiate the jump sequence it may be necessary that you get out of his way first.

In any case it would be considered very rude to shoot at your benefactor or try to extract his fuel otherwise. The attempt won't be successful.

Minimum Requirements
*Interstellar_help.oxz v2.3 requires at least Oolite 1.80.

Rather more excitement in interstellar space!

(Hooray! And your chances of rescue are increased by having - merely possessing - the 'electronic thumb'; a different OXP makes that equipment available.)
* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)
* Finding derelicts within interstellar space.

Also, though this is something that happens when one leaves witchspace: this OXP gives you a chance of ending up near - or, er, very near - the system's sun. (Er . . handy?)

Relation to other expansion packs
Packs of which Interstellar Tweaks can make use

Interstellar Tweaks can draw upon alll of the following (and indeed, but in a fairly trivial way, a few that I do not list here) - but it requires none of them. Most but not all of the packs are available via the in-game manager. (The remainder will have to be downloaded and installed manually. The in-game manager will suggest - as accompaniments to Interstellar Tweaks - only those packs that are available via that manager.)
** Thargorn Threat
** Tionisla Orbital Graveyard and its 'shipwrecks' sub-pack

Compatibility

Interstellar tweaks tries to be compatible with the following expansion packs.

* Thargoid_Witchspace_Drive
* Wormhole drones
* Galactic Misjump OXP
* Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy (at least up to a point)

Other points
* The load that Interstellar Tweaks will place on your computer will be, for the most part, light to moderate (and, mostly, via CPU much more than RAM and graphics card). That is so especially for Interstellar Tweaks version >= 7.5. Yet, if you install many expansion packs with which Interstellar Tweaks can interact, then that will increase the load.

* The difficulty of this expansion pack varies automatically, in various ways, with the player's Elite Rating.

Interstellar tweaks is compatible with the following expansion packs.

* Thargoid_Witchspace_Drive
* Wormhole drones
* Galactic Misjump OXP
* Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy (at least up to a point)

Other points
* The load that Interstellar Tweaks will place on your computer will be, for the most part, light to moderate (and, mostly, via CPU much more than RAM and graphics card). But if you have many of the expansion packs recommended below installed, then that will increase the load.

* The difficulty of this expansion pack varies automatically, in various ways, with the player's Elite Rating.
One thing I've noticed about this which seems a little odd it says that the ship is bigger than the cobra mark 3 but it's not if anything it's slightly smaller. maybe the oxp needs some revision or the description on the wiki?

Rather more excitement in interstellar space!

(Hooray! And your chances of rescue are increased by having - merely possessing - the 'electronic thumb'; a different OXP makes that equipment available.)
* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)
* Finding derelicts within interstellar space.

Also, though this is something that happens when one leaves witchspace: this OXP gives you a chance of ending up near - or, er, very near - the system's sun. (Er . . handy?)

Relation to other expansion packs
Here are expansion packs upon which Interstellar Tweaks can draw (though it requires none of them). Most but not all of the packs are available via the in-game manager. (The remainder will have to be downloaded and installed manually. The in-game manager will suggest - as accompaniments to Interstellar Tweaks - only those packs that are available via that manager.)

Uk Eliter: Comprehensive rewrite.

Rather more excitement in interstellar space!

(Hooray! And your chances of rescue are increased by having - merely possessing - the 'electronic thumb'; a different OXP makes that equipment available.)
* Encountering bounty hunters. (Hooray?)
* Encountering pirates. (Boo?)
* Developing 'witchspace sickness'. (Definitely boo.)
* Ending up in a high radiation area, which can kill you whilst you are there but has no long-lasting effects. (So, mostly: boo.)
* Meeting rebel thargoids. (Hooray!)

** Armoury
** Behemoth
** Breakable WitchDrive
** BGS
** Escape Pod Locator OXP
** Extra Thargoids
** Fer-de-Lance 3G OXP
** Fuel Collector OXP
** Galactic Navy
** Generation Ships OXP (note: this OXP - for one thing - make generation ships rarer);
** Griff's shipset expansion packs (for, especially, nice looking thargoids!);
** Interstellar help OXP* with its 'Electronic Thumb'
** Military Fiasco
** Misjump Analyser
** Missionaries OXP
** *mPakRedux (a.k.a. 'Rusties') - see Second-hand ships for download details
** Staer9 Spectre
** To Catch a Thargoid
** Thargoid Carrier (this will considerably increase the thargoid threat - though it can be offset somewhat via my Fer-de-Lance 3G expansion pack);
** Thargorn Threat
** Wormhole restoration OXP

Compatibility

* Interstellar Tweaks is compatible with Thargoid Witchspace Drive.
* Interstellar Tweaks seems to work with the Wormhole drones expansion pack (though that latter OXP is, I think, unfinished).
* Interstellar Tweaks is compatible with cim's Galactic Misjump OXP.

License
