Cody, as he has come to be known, was born on Zaquesso in the fifth octant, many years ago. The seventh child of an inveterate gambler and his long-suffering wife, he was running numbers by the age of ten. Few people know his real name... he came by his moniker playing poker in bars and clubs, a ‘career’ he embarked upon at the age of fourteen. One stormy night, after five years of this dubious and highly uncertain lifestyle, which had taken him all over Zaquesso, he found himself in The Final Eight, a small, dimly-lit bar in Spacetown. There he fell into conversation with an old spacer, and after a long night of drinking evil juice and talking, the old spacer took him up to the main station, on to his ship... and on out to the stars.

Cody proved to be a natural pilot and combateer, and after less than a year as the old spacer’s XO, he had earned enough credits to buy his own ship... a vintage Cowell & MgRath Cobra Mk III, which he named Rolling Thunder. The young Commander Cody took to the spacelanes of the Eight as a privateer, fought his way up to Elite rank, and is now a veteran combateer with a five-figure kill-count and a few million in the bank. He now pilots a late-model Cobra Mk III, re-built under license by Griff Industries, named Mercurial Amethyst. Wearing either a snazzy fedora or a battered old sombrero, and invariably smoking a colita, he is a well known figure in many station bars, from Riedquat to Lazaso... and beyond.

Over the years, rumours have been heard in some spacer bars about a mysterious squadron, known as the Free Mexican Airforce, and Cody’s involvement in it. It is said that he holds the rank of Colonel in this outlaw squadron, and is suspected of being a major contrabandista. Whatever the truth of that, he is a sworn enemy of bounty-hunters, and hunts them for sport.

When not exploring the backwater systems of the Eight, saving poor traders from brigands, or sitting in some seedy spacer bar, playing poker or getting rat-assed on evil juice, he can be found aboard his starship Mercurial Amethyst, somewhere in deep space, writing his memoirs... and planning his next expedition.
