LittleBear's changes 2007

Update:

Added the new version of Thargoid Wars + wiki page. Changed the collum titles slightly. If nobody objects I'll get round to adding a Wiki page for each OXP (in the same style as the updated Thargoid Wars page) with a long description (taken from the Author's readme) for each OXP, with a download link on the Wiki Page.

LittleBear - 19/7/07.

Like the propsal, with Oosat1 & Oosat2 no longer being updated (and so all new and updated OXPs will now go on the Wiki), theres a lot to be said for a single at a glance table where all the OXPs can be seen in one place with download links. The table also makes it easy for authors to update in one place. Think the table is fine as it is, as it adds to the browsing factor, players being able to see some information on an OXP before downloading it. Eventually it would be cool to maybe have the table as now, but the Download Section renamed "Information" and the other information renamed "Short Description". Have a Wiki page for each OXP (as per your Sandbox proto-type) with the download on that page. Eg As is currently the case with Assassins, Velocity & Imperial Courier. For the minute it could just be the stub with the download link. Perhaps also add a difficulty rating to the OXP as well on this page?

The OXP page is now rather long though. Maybe move the list of OXPs by Catagory to another page, but with a link here saying "Click here to view all OXPs divided by cataogory"?

LittleBear - 15/7/07

That looks really good, LittleBear - I learned a lot about the OXPs from your updates! Have you seen my proposal for an OXP information page in the BB discussion? I'd like to know what you think.

Updated:

Did a few more descriptions and added a link in the table to the new Icarus Light Trader.

LittleBear - 137/07

Updated:

Made a start adding some descriptions to the Information Section on the table.

LittleBear - 12/7/07

Updated:

Updated the Downloading OXPs section to make clear that Oosat1 and 2 are no longer updated and players should use the versions that appear on this page, as this page is the one that it being maintained and updated. Also added links to the Wiki Mission, Ships and Stations pages in the relevant catagories.

LittleBear - 10/7/07

Updated:

Great work! Had a minor fiddle, moved the stations and missions which were still in the ships section into the missions / dockable objects sections. Also added a link to Anarchies OXP. Think Fuel Pod is a little pod you can buy instead of a missile (and tops up 3ly - not sure where it is though!). Edit: Found Wiki page for it and added link.

LittleBear 9/7/07

Updated: wrex teaser. refers to Alioth.net uploaded there (oosat2) as well.

PPC25 new link. refers to Oosat2 as well.

Question: Fuelpod...does this refer to the small 1LY pod from my stables?

If so, it is already included in the wrex_teaser_v1.2 .

OXPs by category

This is the first step in attempting to document OXPs to help newer players. In particular, putting sound sets and HUDs together makes it easier for players to download and install one HUD or sound set at a time. Everything I wasn't sure of went under Ships, but I have probably made a couple of mistakes; I'll correct them in time as I search through the other documentation that abounds here. OjnoTheRed.

Table for OXP list implemented

Apologies to anyone watching this page who has just received multiple update messages. I'm just getting the hang of Wiki, thought I'd ironed out what was needed in the Sandbox, but found I hadn't. I promise I'll use the Sandbox more extensively before updating a page in future.

The table will be filled out in time so that anyone who just wants the alpha list of downloads but might want to get more information before downloading can go to the relevant page. My (very ambitious!) idea is to fill out the missing information about expansion packs as I go.

I might also put another column of Category into the table, so that there's a brief (three word max) description to give a broad idea of what each OXP does.

Great work. I'm sure that we can put up with multiple update messages if it means that someone is working on the Wiki as much as you have recently. Only suggestion would be to put some lines down the columns of the OXP table, or even a grid, but don't ask me how! ;)

We're moving along!

Thanks Uncle Reno and LittleBear. This is the kind of collaboration I love. What I'm almost finished doing is working my way through the Ships section, providing links for more information, even where the page hasn't got any more information that "this ship can be found in the *.oxp expansion pack." What I'm quickly spotting is which OXPs are well documented and which are not.

This is creating some problems with table layout; there's too many columns. What I'm going to muck around with is placing the lists of ships vertically in a single column, and then I'll be implementing some form of grid. I've had a look at the Wiki help, and you can custom colour each individual cell if you want to. I'm thinking of making the left and right padding zero for each cell, but small padding above and below, and then making each alternate row white and light blue (the colour you can see at the moment on the table - I took this from the Sandbox and it looks good). I'll try for a look and feel similiar to the Ship data tables.

Once I've finished going through the Ship Wiki pages, I'll go through Stations, Missions, and everything else until we have a comprehensive table in one spot. Then I'll see if I can have a got at filling in all the missing ship and station details.

Update: table is now complete (more or less)

I've now completed the table as I'd like it to appear. Basically a newer player can tell (at a glance) what kind of things each OXP provides, and links to more information about the content of the OXP.

Some of the OXPs have been documented superbly, such as Commies and Black Monks. There are some stubs, but plenty with no documentation. Particularly sound sets have no documentation. I'd like to do at least an overview review of each sound set, maybe even upload samples for key phrases (such as "Incoming Missile").

Still lots of information gaps to fill, but I'll start bit by bit.

Racers

We will be needing a seperate section for purpose built racers soon.

I'm going to update (redux) my cust_paintjobs.oxp, adding several more 'tigers' and a shedload of adders as well as a few custom racerships.

--Arexack 02:29, 18 August 2007 (BST)

Adding link to page for HUD images.

Adding link to page for HUD images. Soon I'll add links to pages for other OXPs that add new/different ships, equipment, orbiting stations, textures, etc. HUD has its own image page, ships will have it's own image page, etc. Basically, each subsection for the OXP page will have its own image page. --Bulrush 16:03, 22 April 2008 (BST)

OXP lists

I'm thinking it's becomming a little crowded on the OXP page. Perhaps we should consider giving the 2 OXP lists thier own pages? With a link to them on the OXP page at the top of course? Just something to consider --ADCK 02:27, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks JazHaz! That makes it better now that its Split into two parts. (EDITED by ADCK to remove old link) --ADCK 02:30, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Although I think Page 1 deserves it's own page too, same as the OXP's By Category. --ADCK 02:33, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

You're too quick, I was working on it! LOL! --JazHaz 02:38, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

LOL. I personally don't think all the info before and after the table is needed twice (here and in the other one) And in my opinion I still think the tables deserve their own pages, perhaps named "List of all OXP's A to M" "List of all OXP's N to Z" "List of all OXP's by category" and keep the OXP page as just info on what an OXP is (everything currently there minus the lists) and just have a link to the List pages on the OXP page. Would mean a lot less clutter. --ADCK 02:43, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

They do need redesigning, but not tonight!! It's the middle of the night here in the UK and I'm getting tired!! LOL! --JazHaz 02:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Massive restructure, added:

Table of all OXP's

Information regarding Oolite's expansion packs, and the latest OXP download links.

OXP Icon cat.png

All OXP's by Category

OXP Icon 1.png OXP Icon 2.png OXP Icon 3.png OXP Icon 4.png
'A' to 'F' 'G' to 'M' 'N' to 'S' 'T' to 'Z'

And everything that links from there. Was alot of work, but It's was worth it, we shouuldnt have to split them again for years. ADCK 05:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

What means New OXPs are posted here!? Svengali 16:41, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah the wording is a little odd now that you mention it, I just copied and pasted it from the old version. It's kind of redundant, so i'll remove that part. ADCK 14:10, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Change of plan, it now uses the new nav box and have reworded the desctiption in that section. ADCK 14:24, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I thought you would have a special plan in mind, e.g. displaying there the last changed oxp or something similiar. Svengali 15:15, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

OXP markers

What format do we want to use for the date. Currently it's a string = easy to use. Default value is used if no param declared. Probably it'd be better to use Y-M-D (e.g. 2010-04-15, ISO8601) to allow sorting and date functions and maybe even an autoexpire (at least if the parser functions extension gets installed someday). Svengali 15:21, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Example:

OXPNew.png
2010-04-15
Changed it to ISO 8601 conformity Svengali 22:53, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Level indicators

Levelindicator5.png
0-5
A template for the difficulty of an oxp is also there now. Using it on oxp pages could give Jamesons a better overview, but we'll need to define and clarify the different levels. Usage is simple: {{OXPLevel|0|5}}, with min/max, value range is 0-6, default 0. Svengali 09:00, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
